Balancing the energy centers creates a sense of ease and allows us to move forward on our path to enlightenment as a soul with less suffering - and also, we each come to earth with a specific set of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual lessons to master. The timing of the balance is not our responsibility. The discipline to show up and create balance for ourselves using our tools (mantra, meditation, yoga, self study) the best we possibly can, is. Then we wait and witness.
Here is a break down of the chakras so you can become more familiar before the practice:
Mulhadhara (ROOT Chakra 1st) LAM - lessons in the material experience of the world. Themes are survival and basic needs. This energy center is about learning to exist physically with in a family and community, having a roof over our heads, enough food and resources, money, etc. It physically supports the body and is associated with the base of the spine, the legs, bones, feet, rectum and immune system.
Mentally and emotionally, this energy center is about feeling at home in all situations, belonging. The ability to provide for yourself and others, the ability to stand up for yourself and your physical and group safety and security. Some symptoms of an imbalanced root can be: depression, lower back pain, sciatica, rectal cancer, varicose veins and immune related issues.
Svadhisthana (SACRAL 2nd) VAM - lessons relating to sexuality, work and desire. This energy center is seen as the “seat of the self” in most eastern traditions. It governs our deepest desires and impulse based “gut checks” - the actions, people and behaviors we feel magnetized towards.
The easiest way to conceive of this energy center is to sense the sexual organs, large intestine, lower spline, pelvis, and hip area. Mentally and emotionally this energy center works with sex, creation, void, blame, guilt, control, creativity, ethics in relationships, and shame. Some signs this area may be out of balance include: obgyn problems, low back pain, sexual issues, urinary issues and anxiety.
Manipura ( SOLAR PLEXUS 3rd) - RAM (rum)- “city of the shining jewel” contains lessons relating to the ego, personality and self esteem. It is located near the stomach, liver, gallbladder, spleen, adrenals, diaphragm and middle spine. Sahasrara ( CROWN 7th) OM - “thousand petals” lessons related to spirituality. This energy center is all about union. It is said to be the final center to develop and makes it easier for us to die peacefully knowing we are united with all that is beyond the physical form. It deals with issues such as the ability to trust life cycles, values, ethics, courage, humanitarianism, selflessness, seeing larger patterns, faith and inspiration, devotion. It can be sensed in the muscular system, skeletal system and skin, also through the crown of the head. When out of balance it may present as energetic disorders, mystical depression, chronic exhaustion, sensitivities to light, sound and other environmental factors.
The best way to get to know the chakra system is to feel it in your own body. Below you will find an offering to initiate a relationship with each energy center along the spine.
